Why Istanbul?
Istanbul has been a center of leather craft for over 600 years. The city’s leather workshops — especially in the historic districts — still practice traditional tanning and stitching methods that produce material no factory process can replicate.
Vuv Design is built on this tradition. Every product starts with full-grain, genuine distressed leather sourced locally, cut by hand, and assembled with a saddle stitch — the strongest leather joining technique, used in everything from handmade shoes to equestrian gear.

The Leather We Use
We use full-grain genuine distressed leather — the highest grade of cowhide leather. Here’s what that means in practice:
- Full-grain: The outermost layer of the hide, with natural grain patterns intact. It’s the strongest and most durable part.
- Genuine: Real animal leather, not synthetic or bonded.
- Distressed: Naturally tanned without heavy chemical processing — each piece has unique markings, texture, and color variation. No two pieces look exactly the same.
Full-grain leather develops a rich patina over time. The longer you use it, the better it looks. This is the opposite of synthetic materials, which degrade from day one.
